- RC continues to be wary of everything around him, afraid of being discovered by savages
- A year and a half passes before RC sees the savages again
- RC hears what he thinks is a gun fired at sea
- RC hurries to the top of a hill
- Hears the gun again
- Figures it is coming from where he and his canoe were knocked off course by the currents
- Thinking it to be a ship in distress or a fellow European, RC starts a fire on the hill
- He keeps the fire going all night
- In the morning, he sees a sail or hull at sea
- He rushes to the edge of the island, and is saddened to see the ship was wrecked on the rocks
- RC uses this experience to reflect how God has blessed him to be the sole survivor
- RC foreshadows finding a drowned boy from the wrecked ship during his last year on the island
- RC decides to go look at the wrecked ship to see if there were any supplies that could be of use to him
- Once in his boat on the way to the ship, RC runs into the currents, and second- guesses on going to the boat
- RC decides to go to a small hill and observe the tides so that he can get through the currents
- Arrives safely at the boat
- The ship turns out to be a Spanish ship
- The ship was in a sorry shape
- A dog was on the boat
- The dog was starved, RC took him into his canoe
- The dog was the only thing living, and RC found no dry useful goods
- RC DID take two seaman's chests, some liquor, gun powder, fire shovel and tongs, two brass kettles, a copper pot, and a gridiron
- Once back at his cave, RC found that the liquor was not good
- He also found in the chests: bottles filled with fine waters, two pots of succades, shirts, handkerchiefs and neck cloths, some money, more gun powder, and 2 pair of shoes
- RC went back to regular old life
